THE DESIGN PROCESS

One of three building types on our project, the Atrium Sports Center Dev Lekki, the Main Clubhouse features a swimming pool, two squash courts, open-air roof terrace boxing gym, gymnasium, Michelin grade kitchen, two bars/ restaurants, VVIP Bar, Private Lounges, VVIP members Lounge and a beauty/ therapy unit for members.

The architecture is informed by the need to benefit from the abundant fresh air blowing from the Lagos Lagoon not far from the site. The buildings are orientated to encourage natural cross ventilation through each building by offering a much needed natural cool fresh air to the end users in a heavily dense populated area with zero public space and amenities. Similarly the open site also presented the challenge of providing sun shading within the building, particularly from the morning and late afternoon sun. The final shading/ cladding device design is informed by the local weave basket (made from rafia sticks) mostly used by market traders to transport farm produce.
